New Peugeot 508: Photos from the Paris Motor Show Floor

Peugeot has decided to take a more elegant approach with the design of its top-of-the-line 508 model, ditching the old and odd Peugeot nose in favor of a more attractive new design language. Competing with Volkswagen's B7 Passat and Kia's Optima, which we showed you earlier, the 508 is the first attractive Peugeot saloon in a while.

For consumers in Europe, the new 508 will be available next spring. Its eight engine choices are decidedly diesel-heavy; there are five diesel units and three gasoline options, while in 2012, Peugeot will launch a diesel-electric hybrid version using the same technology found on the 3008 Hybrid4 crossover. As far as body styles go, there will be a sedan and a station wagon. The new 508 has to be one of the nicest-looking cars in the mid-size segment; it's a real shame we don't get something like this in the States.

New TV Ad Shows Peugeot 508 in Motion

Peugeot has released the first full-length TV ad for its flagship 508 sedan that will have its world premiere at the Mondial de l'Automobile (Paris Motor Show) at the end of the month. The 508 sits snugly between the soon-to-be-discontinued 407 and the already defunct 607 range in terms of size.

The ads show off the sedan and wagon body styles on the move for the first time, as well as features such as the push-button start, Audi-esque pop-up information display and (optional) panoramic sunroof. Peugeot has promised standard stop-start across the range.

The 508 goes on sale in Europe early next year, and will be available with a choice of naturally aspirated and force fed 1.6-liter gasoline units, and 1.6-liter, 2.0-liter and 2.2-liter turbo diesels.

A diesel-electric Hybrid4 version is scheduled to be added to the range in mid-2011.

Paris Motor Show Poll: Kia Optima vs Peugeot 508 vs VW Passat

At the 2010 Paris Motor Show, we saw three new mid-size sedans making their way to the halls of the Parc des Expositions Porte de Versailles. Two of them, the all-new Peugeot 508 and the redesigned VW Passat B7, received their world premiere, while the Kia Optima was presented for the first time in Europe.

Now, we all know you can't and you shouldn't buy a car based upon looks or preliminary specs alone. It's the whole package that counts. However, in this case, we simply want to find out which one of these new family sedans captured your attention for the right reasons.
